PAM Transport company driver Alan Johnson was awarded the 2013 MISSION MPG Grand Prize — a 2014 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.
This year, Alan is again in the top 10% of the PAM company driver fleet when it comes to fuel efficiency and is in the running to win both of the 2016 MISSION MPG Giveaway’s top prizes — a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Honda four-wheeler.
About Alan
Prior to becoming a professional truck driver, Alan owned and operated his own industrial supply business in Memphis, Tenn., for 23 years before closing shop in 2005.
At the age of 52, after working for one year as a courier for Federal Express, Alan saw an ad in the newspaper about careers in trucking and decided to pursue a new career as a professional truck driver; he has been a company driver with PAM Transport since 2007.
What’s he driving?
Alan currently drives a 2016 Freightliner Evolution.
His favorite thing about being a professional truck driver
Alan says, “I love the view I get from through the windshield; beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There’s a sunflower field off I-35 in Texas, and at the right time of day, as the sunflowers follow the sun across the sky, as far as the eye can see is the most amazing view of bright yellow flowers. The view is definitely my favorite thing about life on the road.”
About Alan’s family
Alan has two children: Heather, a schoolteacher in Tennessee, and Alan Jr., an Arkansas state trooper. He has four grandchildren: Sara Grace, Lily Hannah, Cade Alan and Blake Henry.
Hobbies
When he’s not behind the wheel, Alan enjoys attending his grandchildren’s baseball games and fishing and hunting with friends.
Fuel Tip
Alan says, “The secret to good fuel efficiency is paying attention to traffic patterns, staying in the right lane, and consistently using cruise control at 62 MPH”. Alan’s favorite saying is “62 and cruise!”
