A longtime driver for PAM and a fuel-efficiency expert, Tom Landry won a 2013 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy — the Grand Prize awarded during 2012’s MISSION MPG competition.
Still driving for PAM, Tom remains one of the fleet’s most fuel-efficient drivers and is eligible to win a Honda four-wheeler in this year’s MISSION MPG Giveaway.
About Tom
Tom has been a professional truck driver since 1996. He started his career with Schneider and then drove for Continental Express and Pro Transportation before taking a job at McNeil Trucking.
Tom transitioned from McNeil to PAM Transport in 2003, making 2016 his thirteenth year with PAM Transport!
What’s he driving?
Tom currently drives a 2016 Freightliner Evolution.
His favorite thing about being a professional truck driver
Tom says, “I like to make my own decisions, be my own boss. As long as I’m delivering on time, no one bothers me. I like to make the decisions about when to start my day, when to end my day; proper planning lets me be very independent and that’s what I love about being a professional truck driver.”
About Tom’s family
Tom has been married to his wife Janeth since 1986. Tom and Janeth have three children: Krystle, Thomas, and Joy, along with one grandchild, Ian.
Hobbies
When Tom is not driving, he enjoys spending time at home, playing with his dogs, riding around on his four-wheeler, and mowing the lawn.
Fuel tip
Tom says, “The secret to good fuel efficiency is cruising at 62 MPH. I can’t control the wind, I can’t control the weight of my load, but I can control my speed. Anyone can do that — there’s no reason why every driver can’t be fuel efficient. If I can do it, anyone can do it.”
