PAM Truck Drivers Earn Big Bonuses & Cash Prizes Through the MISSION MPG Fuel Efficiency and Safety Bonus Program

PAM Transport awards truck drivers over $600,000 annually in cash and prizes through the MISSION MPG program, such as company driver Joel Devries, who won a brand-new Honda ATV for his exceptional fuel efficiency.

“I guess the biggest thing that I do that I bet a lot of truckers don’t is I don’t stop,” said Joel, when asked how he made it to the top 10% in his peer group for fuel efficiency.

“I try to align my day at the start — I wake up, I go to the bathroom, I get my food, I get my drinks set up, and I try to set it up so that my fuel stop and my 30-minute break are all at the same spot, and preferably at lunch or at dinner time, so that I only have one stopping point… You use up the most fuel when you are accelerating and decelerating and that’s going to be on your on and off ramps. So the less time you stop, the less fuel you use.”

That’s just the beginning of the financial rewards of the MISSION MPG Fuel Efficiency and Safety Bonus Program. Drivers can earn extra bonuses all year long for monitoring their fuel efficiency and for getting the highest MPG possible. Drivers compete against other company drivers, and those that perform in the top 40%, 25%, and 10% of their peer group are eligible to win top prizes.

Quarterly prizes include cash bonuses, iPhones, iPads, and Visa gift cards. The Grand Prize Winner at the MISSION MPG event receives a Harley Davidson, and four runners up receive Honda ATVs.

Drive, Save, Win!

The MISSION MPG fuel efficiency bonus is paid monthly, quarterly, and annually, based on each driver’s peer group: solo, team, or trainer. For example, a solo driver in a 2020 Peterbilt is only competing against other solo truck drivers in 2020 Peterbilts.

Here’s how to successfully increase fuel efficiency to earn cash and prize rewards in the Mission MPG program.

M – Minimize RPMs

Use cruise control in top gear whenever possible. Using cruise will minimize RPM fluctuations and can save as much as 1 MPG.

I – Idle Reduction

Every driver needs to idle the truck on occasion. But the more the engine is running without being in motion, the worse the MPG. For each hour a driver sits idling, he or she is losing 1% in fuel efficiency. Make it a habit to shut off the truck every time when setting the brakes. Restart as needed.

S – Slow Down

For each 1 MPH a driver goes over 55 MPH there is a 0.1 decrease in the MPG. The truck has a top speed of 64 MPH. However, the most successful MISSION MPG PAM drivers maintain a top speed of 62 MPH. Reduce speed whenever practical to increase fuel efficiency.

S – Safe Driving

Rapid acceleration and aggressive breaking can wreak havoc on MPG. Avoid this by implementing smart breaking techniques to help minimize complete, unwarranted stops. These techniques should always be used in precarious weather and traffic conditions to maintain optimal safety and MPG.

I – Inflation & Inspection

Check tire pressures daily with a tire gauge. Kicking the tires is not an appropriate method to check the tire pressure. Maintaining steers at 110 lbs and drive tires at 100 lbs will significantly reduce rolling resistance. Every 10 PSI below this results in 0.05 MPG loss. Check fluid levels daily and top them off as needed for peak fuel efficiency.

O – On-time Maintenance

It is critical to get preventive maintenance services done on time. Proper maintenance will ensure the truck is running at peak fuel efficiency. Communicate with Driver Managers to schedule service to prevent unnecessary down time.

N – No Effort = No Bonus

When drivers apply these best practices to their driving routines, they can earn up to $3,200 annually through the MISSION MPG Fuel and Safety Bonus program. They can also win some great prizes. So why wait to take advantage of this opportunity? Drive, save, and win!

The MISSION MPG program is just one example of the great pay opportunities and bonuses that empower PAM truck drivers to live their best lives. Learn more about PAM’s new quarterly bonus opportunities by visiting pamdrivingjobs.com/bonuses.
